Copy and Restoration Frequently Asked Questions

Who is responsible for my copy or restoration?
All copy or restoration is supervised by Roger Ele.  Roger has been copying and hand printing heirloom family photographs since 1975.

What is our goal when we copy or restore?
Our goal is to maintain the integrity of the original photograph using careful attention to detail, quality workmanship, and respect for the importance of your family treasure.

Is my original photograph damaged in the restoration process?
We take a digital picture of your original or scan your original into our computer.  Your photograph will not be harmed in any way.

Does my photograph leave the studio?
No.

How is a restoration quoted?
Your quote will be broken down into these three categories;
- Scanning.
- Art Work: Each restoration is quoted separately.  Art work costs vary from $25 to around $600 for the most heavily damaged.
- Finished photographs and or image(s) on CD.

Does art work have to be done?
No, your photograph may be in perfect condition or you may wish to copy your photograph without repairing any damage.

What about tests?
Often we will require approval of interim tests for a complicated restoration - these tests are included at no additional charge.

How long will a copy or restoration take?
Restoration can take from 1 week to 6 months depending on the extent of the damage, the average is 3 to 4 weeks.  Straight copy with no art work is normally 2 weeks.

Are rush services available?
We are happy to accommodate your deadline when possible without sacrificing quality.  We will do this at no additional charge when our schedule allows us to do this during normal work hours, when our load requires that we work after hours there will be a rush charge.

What are the steps in the restoration process?
- Your original is scanned or we take a digital photo or your original.
- Art work is done on the computer.
- Photographs are normally printed on a variety of digital papers.

What if my photograph is an odd shape?
We can do any of these three things:
- Not show part of the photograph in the finished photographs.
- Make finished photographs the same odd shape.
- Do art work to extend the photograph to match a standard shape.

What if I don't like it?
With all of our work your satisfaction is guaranteed.  You must pay for anything you wish to keep and you must take everything made of an image if you take anything made of the same image.  To protect ourselves against the possibility of work being copied we will not except returns once the work has left our studio.

What is the studios liability for loss or damage to my original?
We limit our liability to $10 per original photograph.  we are more than happy to send you a first copy (when doing a restoration) of the original so that if something were to happen the image would not be lost.
