Frequently Asked Questions

Our goal is to convey the feelings and moods that you would like to express in your finished portraits, we want your portraits to be enjoyed by you and you family for generations.  If we missed a question, please don't hesitate to ask us.

Clothing Suggestions?
The following tips will help you select the clothing that works to create a good portrait.  However, these clothing tips are not absolutes, sometimes "grrreat" portraits do not follow the rules.

  • We suggest that the clothing have no pattern or a subtle pattern, in portraiture simple clothing that allows the attention to stay on the face is usually best.
  • Long sleeves are usually preferable to short sleeves or sleeveless.
  • For multiple people, take everyone's clothing and lay them next to each other, if all of the clothing would look good on one person as an outfit - then the clothing is coordinated and will look good in a group photo.
  • Feel free to bring multiple outfits, we can help you with your clothing selections when you arrive for your session.

What about hair?
If possible give a new haircut at least a week to "fill in" and feel free to use more than one hair style in a session.

What about make-up?
With make-up in portraiture; the lighting shapes the face not the make-up.  Do your make-up to smooth your skin and for how you like it best, if there is a blemish that shows we can retouch your portraits, so don't panic.

Shaving?
For men a "five-o-clock shadow" is difficult to retouch and is an extra charge, so plan your shaving needs accordingly.

What if there is a cold?
Feel free to reschedule if you have a cold or the flu (this is doubly important if the one who is ill is your child).

What should I consider when planning my portrait session?
In order to do the best job for you all of our portrait sessions include planning sessions at no additional charge.  Although your session will often include photos with different moods, the following are some different questions that we will want to consider in your planning session:

  • Formal or casual?
  • Color or Black & White?
  • Classic or contemporary?
  • Style & color of clothing?
  • Studio, park, or special location?
  • Size of the wall where the portrait will be displayed?
  • Color palette of the room that the portrait will be displayed in?
  • Will the portrait have a story telling feel (doing something that is special to you; i.e. fishing, or baking cookies with grandma, etc.)?

Is there a guarantee?
With all of our portrait sessions your satisfaction is guaranteed.  If you are not happy with your portrait session we will gladly refund your money or redo the portrait session.
