Hi, Pleased to meet you! :)
My name is Roger Ele and I started our studio in the late 80s. But before that, for 14 years, I worked behind the counter and in a black & white darkroom at a camera store here in Sacramento. I taught customers how to use their cameras and I printed in the darkroom, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. ;)
I have always loved the process of getting the best image I can from a photograph.
Black & White photography forces the focus to be on light, shape, and flow and has always been my passion.
I bring this love of refining and improving photographs to the photo restoration process. I look forward to helping you get the best out of your photographs!
Thanks!
Roger
Anything. We can copy/digitize any photo, negative, or slide regardless of size or shape. We are also happy to work from your digital images.
High resolution digital images are included with all copying and restoration orders. We also make prints on photo paper, matte paper, or canvas - samples are available.
Yes. You can ...
Yes, this way you can see how quickly the work goes and give input on what work you would like done.
Our pricing is based on our actual time spent working on your project, and we will give you our best guess. We are happy to do the work with you watching. If we are doing the work on our own, we will check in with you as we go along.
All of our Copy & Restoration art work is guaranteed until it leaves our studio - since the art work can be copied with a cell phone all art work is final once delivered. We are happy to do additional art work or redo art work if we miss something.
Yes, we are happy to do a few minutes of artwork to demonstrate the process.
Furthermore, if at the end of the initial 15 minutes of artwork you are not satisfied with the work, then you get nothing, but there is no charge.
All images are adjusted for the best tonality. We are also happy to match the tonality of the original even when it is not as pretty, when your goal is to match that look.
Artwork is a term we use for digital repair of damage or major image tone corrections. Artwork is not a requirement, as sometimes it is appropriate to show the damage (the photo is old, right?).
Yes. We have multiple software programs available to us, and we will often try them all, using all or parts of each as a base for our artwork. We never turn down any techniques that can make our work go faster and provide excellent results.
Typically, while you wait or within two weeks, depending on our schedule and the scope of the work. Rush orders where we need to work outside our regular hours will incur a rush charge to be quoted at the time of the job.
Yes, we do have quantity pricing. Please see our price list ...
Note: All work is done in-house - your original never leaves our studio.
Right. We don't know it all, and we are always learning. If we are not sure what to do, we are off the clock. We don't charge you for our education.
We digitize photographs using a digital camera with special lighting. Problem areas that would show if using a scanner often disappear with no need for additional artwork.
Some examples are photos with a heavy texture and old photos with a metallic silver sheen in the dark areas (called silvering).
